The three stars who appear diagonally in the picture are the Three Maries from the Orion Constellation. They are very popular among children in Brazil who are beginning to explore the skies. In 1939 the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos was asked by Edgar Varese to write a short piece. The final result was this enchanting Suite containing three little gems glittering in the upper register of the piano. For those interrested, the editor of this score is Carl Fischer in New York.
